There are props that serve a story… and then there are props that end up becoming one.

The Galileo shuttlecraft was never meant to be immortal. Built quickly, cheaply, and out of necessity, it was supposed to solve a practical storytelling problem on Star Trek: The Original Series. But the moment it appeared on screen, something unexpected happened. It felt real. Boxy. Fragile. Human. It looked like something you could touch; something that might actually exist just beyond Earth’s orbit.

And that realism forged a bond with fans just like you and I.

Our project is about following that bond across nearly sixty years; from the AMT shop floor where the Galileo was born, to the sound stages of Desilu, to the long decades when it quietly vanished from public view. Sold off. Parked outdoors. Weathered. Forgotten by studios… but never by fans.

Because while the show ended, the Galileo’s story didn’t.

It survived because people cared enough to remember where it was. To photograph it. To protect it. To fight for it. And eventually, to restore it piece by piece with the same devotion Starfleet engineers might have shown themselves.

This book documents is our attempt to finally tell that entire story; the life, the loss, and the resurrection of a shuttlecraft that refused to fade away. Not as nostalgia, but as preservation. Not as trivia, but as living history.

At Trek World, we’ve spent years rescuing rare footage, restoring forgotten film and photos, and listening closely to the voices that were almost lost. This project is the natural culmination of that mission.

The Galileo survived because fans believed it mattered.

Now we want to document why.
